Artificial Grass And Bouncy Castles

The number one question at the moment is... Can a bouncy castles be setup on artificial grass, outdoors? Unfortunatly the short answer is no. Although in theory it is possible, it just isn't practical due to the legal requirements of securing and anchoring down a bouncy castle down in an outdoor environment.

A children's bouncy castle will have at least 6 to 8 anchor points. On a normal grass surface a bouncy castle would be anchored down using metal stakes/pegs to secure it safely to the ground. Each anchor stake is at least 380mm in length, and 16mm in diameter. This is to ensure that the bouncy castle is safely secured to the ground and cannot move. This also ensures that the bouncy castle is suitably secure in the event of light winds below 24mph. With artificial grass, we are unable to securely anchor your bouncy castle down, due to A: you not wanting us to ruin your artificial grass surface and B: even if you did give us permission to anchor the bouncy castle in to the artificial surface this would leave permanent holes / damage in the artificial grass.

Due to not being able to use pegs/stakes, the only other option is to use sandbags. Sandbags are great for weighing down bouncy castles and we use these for indoor setups, however they are not suitable for anchoring down bouncy castles outdoors.

The reason for this is due to the amount of sandbags that would be required, even for a small bouncy castle. A single sandbag weighs 25kg, however, each anchor point legally requires at least 163kg of sandbags. 163kg x 6 means that a total of 978kg (minimum) of sandbags would be needed, around 40 sandbags for a bouncy castle outdoors (assuming there was only 6 anchor points). If it was a larger bouncy castle that has more than 6 anchor points then an additional 163kg of sandbags, around 7 would be needed for each additional anchor point.

Due to the amount of weight required we need a separate van just to transport the sandbags. Then there is the lifting and carrying of the sandbags to the bouncy castle setup location. We know that some companies do not abide by the legal requirements and just use 4 sandbags, not even using all the anchor points. Not only is this amount of weight inadequate, its highly dangerous.

Safety is always our first priority and the last thing we want to have to do is to let anyone down on the day of hire because we have been given inaccurate details of the surface that the bouncy castle will be going on, so if you have any questions or if we can be of any help please contact us on 07949837154 and we will be happy to answer your questions or offer advice.
